Discarding Electronic Waste
Posted on - 21.12.20Christmas may have found you have a number of new electrical products. From things as small as a new mobile phone, right up to a brand new 4K TV. So what happens to all of your old products?
WEEE - Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Recycling your electronic equipment can become a bit of a minefield if you are unsure as to what can go where. Or whether you need to take certain items to specific places. Here in the UK, we know that the majority of councils have not introduced WEEE recycling to their areas. This means that the majority of our WEEE still ends up in landfills, even in 2021.
WEE can include:
- Laptops and Personal Computers
- Mobile Phones
- Tablet Computers
- Hair dryers (straighteners and curlers)
- Wiring and Plugs
- TVs and Monitors
- Mp3 Players and Sound Equipment
- Batteries
- Fluorescent or Incandescent Light Bulbs or LEDs
- DVD, Video or CD Players or Freeview Boxes
Some local councils will have designated drop off locations for these items, meaning that they can be recycled effectively. To find out more please visit your local council website or contact them to find out the local policy.
Larger Electronic Items
There are a number of larger electronic items that we know won't fit in our everyday bins. From fridge freezers to washing machines, these certainly won't fit in a standard wheelie bin!
Similar to smaller electronic waste, your council will often have a dedicated place where these items can be taken for disposal. However, if the appliance is in working order, many places will take this as a donation to help someone in need.
Please note, there are a number of appliances that we are unable to take away in a skip for more information please contact us today and we can discuss this with you.
